LSUMail: Report Junk E-mail from Your Mailbox

Junk, spam, or suspicious e-mails in LSUMail can be reported directly from your mailbox in OWA or Outlook. 

Note: The LSU IT Security and Policy (ITSP) Team has deployed Cofense Reporter, an application that provides users the ability to report suspicious e-mails to the ITSP team quickly and efficiently. The application is available for all @lsu.edu mailboxes automatically. For more information on how to use this utility, click here

OWA (mail.lsu.edu):

1. Right-click on the message to be reported. Select Mark as Junk.

2. Mail will automatically be moved to the Junk E-mail folder.
 

To Indicate that a Message has been Marked as Junk Inappropriately:

1. Navigate to the Junk E-mail folder.

2. Right-click on the message that was marked inappropriately. Select Mark as not junk.

3. The E-mail will appear in the inbox folder again..
 

Outlook 2016:

Install the Microsoft Junk E-mail Reporting Add-in for Microsoft Office Outlook:

1. Navigate to Microsoft.com, and click the Download button to download the Microsoft Junk E-mail Reporting Add-in for Microsoft Office Outlook.

2. Select the appropriate version of the add-in for the version of Outlook at the operating system, and click Next.

3. Run the .msi file that was downloaded. Click the Next button and accept the terms when necessary to allow the installation to complete. Click the Close button once the installation has completed.

4. The Report Junk Mail installation wizard will appear. Click Next to continue.

5. Read over the license agree. Then Accept the Terms, and click Next to continue.

6. The installation process should begin.

7. When the installation is done, click Close.

8. There will now be a Report Junk Add-in in Outlook 2016.
 

To Use the Add-In to Report Mail as Junk:

1. Select the message to be reported.

2. Click the Junk drop-down menu on the Outlook taskbar, and select Report Junk.

3. The program will prompt you asking if you really want to report this email. Click Report

To Indicate that a Message has been Marked as Junk Inappropriately:

1. Select the message that was marked inappropriately.

2. Click the Junk drop-down menu on the Outlook taskbar, and select Not Junk.

3. On the window that appears, leave the checkbox selected to always trust e-mail from that sender, or un-select the checkbox to only move the selected message to the Inbox.

4. Click the OK button.
